Two programs. Two philosophies. One decision.
We'll walk you through how both programs work, what makes each one different, and how to choose — without disparaging anyone. Because different families need different things, and the right program is the one your child loves.

A note from us: We're HappyFeet KC — so obviously we think our program is great. But this page isn't a takedown. Soccer Shots is a respected national program that serves thousands of families. We believe both programs can be excellent. The question is which one fits your child and your family. We've done our best to be factual and fair. If anything here is outdated, tell us and we'll fix it.

Best for: Families who want soccer to feel like an adventure, not a class. Kids who respond to stories and characters. Parents who value convenience — classes at their child's own school during the day means zero extra driving.
The experience: Your child won't say "I had soccer practice." They'll say "We helped Bob the Bobcat get past the Grumpy Crocodile!" The soccer skills develop naturally because kids are fully engaged — no standing in lines, no waiting for turns, no drills that feel like drills.
The convenience factor: If your child attends one of our 30+ partner schools, soccer happens during their regular school day. You don't drive anywhere. You don't give up a Saturday morning. The class comes to them.
Best for: Families who prefer a clear skill progression with measurable milestones. Kids who thrive with structure and enjoy practicing specific techniques. Parents who want character education (weekly words like "respect" and "determination") woven into the curriculum.
The experience: Well-organized, professionally run, consistent week to week. Kids move through stations that build specific skills. The character word of the week gives parents a conversation starter. Feels like a high-quality enrichment class.
The trade-off: Classes are at centralized community locations — parks, fields, community centers. You'll need to drive to a scheduled time (typically weekends or after-school). The skills-progression approach works best for kids who are ready for some structure.
If your child's school is one of HappyFeet's 30+ KC partner locations, the convenience of on-site classes during the school day is hard to beat. No extra drive. No weekend schedule disruption. Check our partner list to see if your school participates.
Some kids light up when given a clear skill to practice ("today we're learning to dribble with the inside of our foot!"). Other kids' eyes glaze over at the word "drill" but come fully alive when you say "the soccer ball is a dragon egg and we have to get it past the volcano!" Neither child is wrong. They just need different approaches. Soccer Shots leans toward the first child. HappyFeet was built for the second.
If you want to protect your weekends and have soccer happen during the school week, HappyFeet's on-site model is the clear winner. If weekend soccer is part of the family rhythm you want — loading up the minivan, coffee in hand, chatting with other parents on the sideline — Soccer Shots' community-location model might actually be the better fit for that experience.
The best way to know which program fits your child is to let them try it. If HappyFeet isn't the right fit, you'll know in 45 minutes — and you'll have lost nothing.
And if Soccer Shots turns out to be the better fit? We genuinely hope your child has a great experience. A kid who loves soccer — in any program — is a win for youth sports in Kansas City.
Claim Your Free ClassThere's no single "better" — it depends on your child's learning style and your family's schedule. HappyFeet uses imagination-based play with stories and characters (Bob the Bobcat) that keep toddlers fully engaged without drills or waiting in lines. Soccer Shots uses a structured skills-progression curriculum with clear age tiers. Both are well-run programs.
HappyFeet classes happen at your child's school during the day (30+ KC partner locations), while Soccer Shots requires driving to a central location. We recommend trying the free first class at HappyFeet to see which approach your child responds to.
HappyFeet KC is $50/month at all locations with no registration fees, no equipment fees, and your first class is free. Soccer Shots Kansas City pricing varies by location and season but typically ranges from $12–$18 per session, billed by season in 6–12 week blocks. A jersey is usually included. Over a full year, HappyFeet is generally the more predictable and lower-cost option for most families.
HappyFeet KC operates at 30+ partner schools across the Kansas City metro, with classes held on-site at each school during the regular school day. Soccer Shots KC has multiple community-based locations (parks, fields, and community centers) that vary by season. HappyFeet has more total touchpoints because every partner school is a class location, while Soccer Shots concentrates sessions at fewer centralized sites.
Both programs accept children starting at 2 years old. HappyFeet serves ages 2 through 6 years, with a Parent & Me format for the youngest participants and independent classes for ages 2 and up. Soccer Shots serves ages 18 months through 8 years, with three tiers: Mini (18 months–3 years), Classic (3–5 years), and Premier (5–8 years).
Yes — HappyFeet KC offers a guaranteed free first class at every location with no commitment required. Soccer Shots KC typically offers a free trial class upon request, though availability may vary by location and season. We encourage you to try both before deciding.
HappyFeet KC has a direct pipeline to KC Legends Soccer Club, a competitive youth soccer program serving ages 8–18. This means HappyFeet children can transition seamlessly from imagination-based play to competitive play as they grow.
Soccer Shots' Premier program (ages 5–8) introduces more advanced skills, but there is no direct club pathway in Kansas City. Families looking beyond age 8 would need to evaluate local club options independently.
