When can my child start toddler soccer?
HappyFeet KC classes start at age 2. Our youngest class, Little Kickers (ages 2–3), is designed specifically for children who are just beginning to run and kick. No prior experience is needed — just a willingness to play and explore.
Is 2 too young for soccer?
Not at all. Age 2 is actually an ideal time to introduce movement-based play. HappyFeet classes for 2-year-olds focus on imagination, balance, and coordination — not competitive drills. Children this age absorb physical skills naturally through fun, story-driven games. Studies consistently show that early movement programs improve motor development, social confidence, and school readiness.
Should I wait until my child is older?
You don't need to wait. Early enrollment (ages 2–4) captures the prime window for motor skill development and social confidence-building. Many HappyFeet KC families start at age 2 and continue through age 6, building skills and friendships season after season. That said, children who join at age 4 or 5 catch up quickly — there is no wrong time to start.
What's the difference between toddler soccer and youth soccer?
Toddler soccer (ages 2–5) is play-based and non-competitive. There are no scores, no referees, and no tryouts. HappyFeet classes use imagination-themed games — think pirates, dinosaurs, and space adventures — to teach kicking, dribbling, and teamwork in a low-pressure environment. Youth soccer (ages 6+) introduces team positions, competitive games, and structured practice. HappyFeet is specifically designed for the toddler and preschool stage, bridging playful movement and fundamental soccer skills.
Will my child learn real soccer skills at this age?
Yes — real, age-appropriate skills. HappyFeet's licensed curriculum systematically introduces dribbling, passing, kicking accuracy, and spatial awareness across our three age groups (Little Kickers 2–3, Mighty Kickers 3–4, and Super Kickers 4–6). The skills are taught through imaginative play, which research shows is the most effective learning method for children under age 6. Children who complete multiple HappyFeet seasons consistently display noticeably stronger ball control and teamwork skills than peers starting rec soccer cold at age 6 or 7.
Format & What to Expect
What does a HappyFeet class look like?
Each class follows a consistent, structured flow: a warm-up story-theme introduction, skill stations with imagination-based games, a group activity, and a short cool-down. Coaches keep energy high and transitions fast — perfect for short toddler attention spans. Every child gets a ball at their feet for most of the session. Classes are capped at small group sizes so every child gets individual attention. No two classes feel exactly the same; themes rotate to keep kids excited week after week.
How long is each class?
HappyFeet KC classes run 45 minutes. This is intentionally calibrated to toddler and preschool attention spans — long enough for meaningful skill work, short enough to end before energy (and patience) runs out. Arrive 5 minutes early to get your child settled and shoes tied.
Will my child be left out if they're shy?
HappyFeet coaches are specifically trained to gently include shy or hesitant children without pressure. Children who hold back at first are given space to observe, then are invited in gradually — through a fun character or game rather than a directive. Most shy children are fully participating within 2–3 classes. If shyness is a persistent concern, speak with your coach after class — they have specific strategies for quiet or sensory-sensitive children.
What if my child cries or doesn't want to participate?
This is completely normal, especially in the first 1–2 classes. HappyFeet coaches know how to gently re-engage a reluctant child. Your job as a parent is to stay calm and encouraging from the sidelines — children often look to parents for cues. Avoid rescuing too quickly; most children settle within 10–15 minutes once the fun becomes obvious. If your child is still struggling after 3 sessions, talk to your coach or contact us — we can offer guidance or help you find the right class time or location.
Do parents stay during class?
Yes — parents stay on the sidelines for all HappyFeet classes. We are not a drop-off program for toddlers. Your presence provides security for your child and gives you a front-row seat to their progress every week. Some locations have designated parent seating; others use gym bleachers or lobby space. Check with your specific partner school location for their setup.
Logistics
What should my child wear?
Comfortable athletic wear that allows free movement — leggings, joggers, or athletic shorts work great. Indoor sneakers or turf shoes are best; avoid sandals, boots, or slippery socks with no grip. Shin guards are not required for HappyFeet classes. Dress your child in layers if the gym is drafty.
What should we bring?
HappyFeet provides all the balls and equipment. Bring a labeled water bottle for your child, a small snack for after class if your child is hungry post-session, and any comfort item (a stuffed animal, etc.) for shy or younger children. Do not bring large bags or strollers into the gym area — stroller parking is typically available in the lobby.
What if it rains? Are classes held indoors?
Yes — all HappyFeet KC classes are held indoors at our partner school locations. Rain, snow, or heat waves have no effect on your class schedule. Each partner school provides a gym or large indoor space dedicated to our sessions. You'll never need to wonder whether class is cancelled due to weather.
Are there sibling discounts or make-up classes?
Sibling discounts and make-up policies vary by partner school location and session. Check the registration page for your specific school or contact us directly at registration time to ask about sibling pricing. For make-up classes: HappyFeet KC does offer make-up sessions at certain locations when class is missed for illness or family emergency. Make-ups are subject to availability and must be requested in advance. They are not guaranteed but we do our best to accommodate.

How much does HappyFeet KC cost?

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation policies vary by location. Generally, cancellations requested before a session begins may receive a partial or full refund depending on timing. Cancellations after a session starts are typically non-refundable except in documented medical emergencies. Do you offer financial assistance or scholarships?
HappyFeet KC does not currently operate a formal scholarship fund. However, if cost is a barrier to enrollment for your family, we encourage you to reach out directly — we will do our best to connect you with any available local assistance or payment plan options. We believe every child who wants to play should be able to play.
